Description of the destination
Calarasi County is situated in the south-east of Romania, on the left bank of the Danube River and Borcea branch, bordering Ialomita, Constanta, Giurgiu and Ilfov Counties. It includes 2 cities, 3 towns, 50 communes and 159 villages. The relief of Calarasi County is represented by plains, meadows and ponds. The plain area is grouped into four major units: Baraganului Mostiştea Plain (Southern Baragan), Vlasiei Plain, Burnazului Plain, the Danube Meadow. In the southern extremity of the county is individualized the specific topoclimate of the Danube meadow, with warmer summers and milder winters than the rest of the plain. The forest vegetation, which occupies 4.3% of the county's area, comprises mainly the species: the Euro-American poplar, acacia, grey oak, willow, ash, elm, linden, Tatars maple. The fauna includes species of hunting interest, such as: the wild boar, roebuck, pheasant, rabbit and fox. In ponds and lakes you can find the duck and wild goose. Fish that inhabit the waters of lakes and swamps: crucian, carp, bream, perch, Zander and pike, and in the Danube waters and Borcea branch – the sheat fish, sturgeon and shad (information taken from the www.calarasi.ro).
