Description of the destination Buzias
Buzias is a town that belongs to the Timis County. It is located in western Romania, 30 km from Timisoara city and 23 km from Lugoj, in the depression of Buzias.
The settlement is known since Roman times, as the Ahibis. Among the archaeological discoveries made, because of pipes and bricks discovered, we can state that there has been exploitation of mineral waters since the Roman Empire.
The first documentary attestation of this settlement dates from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Due to favorable natural coditions, with rich mineral springs and also a mild climate, Buzias has been recognized as potential watering and climate center. For the first time ever, mineral waters have been recovered for treatment in 1811 by Romanian balneologist Gheorghe Ciocarlan.
The resort’s treatment facilities were built in 1819 and in 1839 it was declared a watering and climate resort.
Buzias mineral waters are used to treat many diseases; they are also bottled and sold as mineral water. Since 1990, the Mineral Baths are under the administration of SC Tratament Balnear Buzias S.A. knowing a new period of prosperity. Today the curative activity, mostly modernized, gives to the cardiovascular diseases a great importance.
It is the main resort in Timis County, which because of its waters appears in the great encyclopedias of the world, such as the one of the Italian scientists M. Messina and CG Lollo "Aque mineral del mondo" or "Precis d` hydrologie" of the French scientist A. Morette, becoming famous in Romania and abroad.
The park in Buzias is another major tourist attraction; it has an area of 20 hectares, having many rare species of trees, the most important being the pan.
Turkish-style, Byzantine architecture of the resort is unique in Romania. The only similar promenades in Europe are found in Karlovy Vary and Baden Baden.
