Rasnov is a small, fancy town, which is trying to keep customs and traditions, where there are organized shows and medieval battles, where you can relax and enjoy watching the mountains around from the top of Rasnov Fortress.
Rasnov is located in southwestern Brasov Depression, 15 km from Brasov, on the river Ghimbasel at 650 m altitude. Traces of habitation on the territory of the city reveal Dacian settlements named Cumidava; later it seems to have been here a large Roman camp. The first documentary mention of Rasnov dates in 1331 as the Rosnou, later in 1343 it is named Rosnov. Other names that appear in documents are Rasnov and Villa Rosarum. In 1427 Sigismund of Luxembourg granted the town the right to fairs organisation. Over the times the settlement gains significance being the second largest fair in the country of Barsa.

In 1600, after the Battle of Miraslau, Michael the Brave comes along with his family to Rasnov calling it “a city of my reign”.

Rasnov is on the road linking the Barsa Country with the Bran passage, being often invaded by the hordes of the Turks and Tatars who destroyed the settlement built by the locals; they decided to built the Rasnov Fortress - a symbol of the town and main tourist attraction.

Currently the city is attractive both for its objectives (Rasnov Fortress, churches, Rasnov Gorges) and by sightseeing and tourist areas in close proximity: Poiana Brasov, Paraul Rece, Piatra Craiului, Bran passage.
