Description of the destination Comarnic

Comarnic city is located in Prahova County.

It is located in the contact area of the Sub-Carpathians of Prahova with the southern extension of Baiu Mountains, expanded in the meadow and routes from the left side of Prahova River, at 580-600 m altitude. With gentle hills of the east and west and especially in the north, the derepession is surrounded by green forests of oak, beech and fir. Nature has been generous with this land, climatic conditions especially favoring the development of forest vegetation and grasslands. Located in the middle of the Carpathians and the Sub -Carpathian interference, between Sinaia (north), Breaza (south), Secaria (east) and Talea (west), at a distance of 108 km from the capital of the country, Comarnic has gained a special feature resulting from the diverse landscape and environmental resources, occupation, habits and clothing.

Exposed to sunlight throughout the year, sheltered by mountains and hills, the depression of Comarnic offers a climate free of moisture and wind, with a specific balance of the Sub-Carpathians. Annual temperatures register values ranging approximately between 8 ° and 10 ° C in the valleys and 8 ° to 9 ° C in the higher area and the annual rainfall reach 600-800 ml, with minimum in February and peak in May -June.

Comarnic name of the village and surrounding toponymy are related to the terminology of shepherds. As Breaza, it seems that this village was founded by the Transylvanian shepherd who, on their way to the Delta swamps, stopped here. The village name, as philologists tell, comes from “comarnic” word, which was used by shepherds of Barsa Country to designate the sheepfold room where they kept the curd. The names of Wool Valley, Casariei Valley, Beliei Valley and the toponyms Wool Hill and Casariei Plane complete the statement of philologists, recalling the old occupation of the shepherds who came with their flocks over the mountains and sit on the sunny hearths, basing villages named after their names, today neighborhoods of the city: Podu Neagului, Podu Lung, Podu vVirtos, Poiana and Vatra Satului.
