Description of the destination
Straja touristic area is located in the heart of the Valcan Massif, in the Jiu Valley, about 20 km from the city of Petrosani. The highest point is represented by Straja Peak of 1445 m height.
The mountain climate is characterized by an average annual temperature of 2 C. Rainfall is between 1200 mm and 1400 mm/ year. There blow predominantly western winds. Snow is present from December to April.
This area can be reached by train until the station of Lupeni on Timisoara - Simeria - Craiova route, and then with the lift. By car, tourists can go up to Petrosani on DN 6 national road and then go to Lupeni.
Straja is one of the best ski resorts in Romania because the storage of snow conditions.
Ski slopes:
Comexim - easy level, 650m length, 145m level difference, lift.
Constantinescu Plateau – easy level, 1742 m length, 364m level difference, lift.
Sun Plateau (Platoul Soarelui) - easy level, 700m length, night lighting, lift.
Special Slalom - difficult level, 519m length, 163m level difference, night lighting, lift.
Giant Slalom – medium level, 1270m length, 320m level difference, lift.
