The village of Ighiu is situated in the center of Alba County, on the south-eastern slopes of the Western Mountains, at a distance of 15 km of Alba Iulia.

Located on the south eastern slopes of Trascaului Mountains, the village of Ighiu is a picturesque settlement, having a varied landscape with large meadows on the banks of Ampoiului and Ighiului river valleys, continuing with hills and mountains up to 1,200 m altitude. The variety of karst structures by its spectacular, the flora and fauna and climate characteristics are attractive from a tourist point of view. On the territory of the village there are many vestiges of Roman and feudal prehistory, the village having an important role during the revolution of 1848 and in the period before the union in 1918.

- Nature reservations (Iezerul Ighiel, Piatra Poienii, Piatra Grohotişul);

- Settlements of the Bronze Age in Bucerdea VinPiatra Taiata – Gugu, Rupturi and on Magurii Peak;

- "St. Paraschiva" Wooden Church in Ighiel - architectural monument – XVIII century;

- Eszterházy Castle of Sard, XVI century;

- the ensemble of Teleky manor in Ţelna, XVIII century;

- Houses of Ion al lui Pavel, Suteu Petru, Suteu Dionisie, Gligor Costea (1875), measures of Danila Gligor, Borca Ion, Bogdan Ion, all in Ighiel;

- the Obelisk with a cross, near the church, the First World War, Ighiel;

- Bust of Bod Peter, near the Reformed Church in Ighiu.
