Description of the destination

Gura Humorului town is located in the intramontane depression of the same name, laying at the confluence of Moldova River with Humor brook, at an altitude of 490 m. To the north there are the peaks Obcinele Humorului, to the south Obcina Voronetului and to the west Obcina Mare. The town documentary attested in 1490; in 1782 the Austrian military commander, which built a fortress in 1904, was moved here, and the settlement was declared a “town”. Besides tasting the Bucovina famous traditional dishes, we recommend you to visit the following tourist attractions:
- Voronet Monastery (5 km from the city) - one of the most important foundations of Stefan cel Mare, known as the "Sistine Chapel of the Orient";
- Museum of Folk Customs of Bucovina (founded in 1959) with over 2,000 pieces, offering temporary exhibits with varied thematic, some rooms which present works of Romanian-born French painter George Cotos;
- Annually, in Gura Humorului, it is organized the caricature contest "Humor ... at Gura Humorului", which brings together the best cartoonists in the country;
- Geological reservations "Piatra Soimului " and "Piatra Pinului";
- Dendrological Park Lunca Moldovei;
- Păltinoasa Ceramic Center.
The Painting and architecture of Voronet belong to two stages of the classical period of Moldavian art: XV and XVI centuries. The exterior painting raises to an upper artistic limit the decorative, elegant style, particular of the first half of the sixteenth century. In a luxurious decorative framework, Moldovan artists represented in the vast areas of the façades, an impressive "cantata" which combines, in a perfect agreement, religious themes with historical and narrative themes. All exterior painting is a unique and supreme action to invoke the divinity in order to obtain salvation of Moldavia from the foreign merging, which was likely to inspire people's faith in its final victory.
