Description of the destination Corund

Corund is a village in Harghita County. It is situated near the national road 13 A ,at 11km of Praid, 18 km of Sovata, 29 km of Odorheiul Secuiesc and 80 km of Miercurea Ciuc.
The name of Corund is inseparable from the folk pottery, being one of the most important centers of popular pottery in Transylvania. The inhabitants have different occupations; in addition to pottery, they deal with wood, tinder products iasca and peddler.
The clay, the raw material for pottery, is extracted from the riverbed of Sacadat brook, which flows on the western side of the village. Corund owned also a mine of aragonite (now the area is a "protected area") and a thermal mineral water pool. Th emineral water springs have an important role in village’s life. Diamoli spring is at the eastern exit of the village, near the road 13A. Mineral water of this spring is rich in iron and is recommended for patients suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, and those suffering from anemia.
Szolomali spring is located at the eastern boundary of the village; its water is rich in bicarbonate, chloride, magnesium and calcium.
Cseredombi and Erzsebet sources, located on the east side of the mine of aragonite, are rich in iron and have salty water.
Tourists passing through the village of Corund can admire and buy goods at craft in front of local’s houses (mats, ceramics, wool, tinder products). Production of ceramics is a daily custom of the locals, being inherited from ancestors.
Points of tourist interest:
- Unitarian Church, is located east of the main road, on a mound. It is surrounded by walls of stone; the church organ was built in 1822.
- Roman Catholic Church, is located south of the main road, on the right bank of the river Kebelet, built in 1911;
- Memorial monument in the center of town, built in honor of heroes from the two world wars;
- Árcsó Halt is located at the border point of communes Corund and Atia and it has a salt water spring;
- salty spring from Corund: using the water from the spring near the road DN 13, near Corund brook, has been regulated since the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, so every Wednesday Corund locals had the right to use water, and those from Atia village every Saturday;
- mineral water from Corund, on the former baths site; we find it today only at Árcsó Chalet and in two mineral water springs;
- Ceramics Fair in Arcio takes place in late August.
