The village of Cincis-Cerna is part of the commune Teliuc Inferior, that belongs to the Hunedoara County.
The relief of the area is hilly and crossed by valleys, the most important valley being the Cerna river valley.
The accumulation lake was equipped in the area of Cincis village (in 1962, when more than 800 families were moved), in Poiana Rosca Mountains, about 10 kilometers from city of Hunedoara, in a picturesque area that call the attention of thousands of tourists. When water level is low, in the dam you can still see the ruins of the former church, mentioned in documents in 1360, which was swallowed by the waters.
The recreation area Cincis-Cerna Lake is shaping in the 1970s, about 5 years after the building of the dam on the river Cerna.
