Description of the destination
Borsa resort is located near the town of Borsa in Maramures County, about 23 km from Viseu de Jos, about 80 km from Sighetu Marmatiei and about 91 km of Vatra Dornei.
Borsa resort is a highly requested destination by fans of winter sports; there are several ski slopes, of which the best known is the Runc-Stiol, with a length of 2,000 m and a level difference of 500 m, equipped with skilift.
Borsa tourist complex includes several hotels, cottages and restaurants. Tourists can get hosting in many private homes and pensions.
Borsa is also the gateway to Rodnei Mountains National Park. The Pietrosul Rodnei natural reservation was created in 1932 in order to protect the many species of flora and fauna, some extremely rare or endemic. The protected flora species are: edelweiss, crosswort, alpine sedge, Swiss pine. In terms of fauna, with the brown bear, lynx and Carpathian deer, the area has been repopulated with chamois (in 1962) and marmots. Today, the territory around Pietrosul Rodnei was declared a Biosphere Reservation in the UNESCO program "Man and Biosphere".
It is possible to practice mountain climbing; the skiing slopes have varying degrees of difficulty, ski jumps, art and architecture of Maramures.
