Description of the destination
Agapia Monastery is located at approximately 7 km from Targu Neamt, at an altitude of about 480 m. The monastic complex includes Agapia Veche building (built in 1585) and Agapia Noua building (1642). The Agapia Noua building is considered to be a true architectural gem. The holiness took place on September 12, 1647 and it was officiated by Metropolitan Barlaam of Moldova, an event attended by ruler Vasile Lupu and the entire aristocracy of Moldova. The great artistic importance of this church is that it was painted by the great Romanian painter Nicolae Grigorescu (1858 to 1860). In the monastery there is a museum, which contains a series of Grigorescu's paintings and some objects of sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.There can also be seen photos of some outstanding personaliatile of Romanian culture, who visited on several occasions Agapia monastery.
